Garnier No Rinse Conditioner Review

Nowadays, with the global energy crisis, we are concerned about wasting energy and water. I try to reduce my energy and water consumption as much as possible. That is why, when I saw the new Garnier No Rinse Conditioner, claiming to save up to 100 L of water and, therefore, gas or electricity to heat that water, I thought it would be a good idea to give it a try. Here is what I think about the product.

What does the brand say?

Say goodbye to conditioners as you know them! Garnier’s new conditioner leaves hair feeling soft and silky to the touch all whilst saving up to 100 Litres of water per tube*

Blended with 98% Natural Origin Ingredients and no silicones for a natural feel, Garnier’s No Rinse Conditioners are formulated to intensely nourish hair without weighing it down.

My opinion about Garnier No Rinse Conditioner

About the packaging

The product comes in a squeeze tube with a flip-top cap. The tube contains 200 mL of product and is made of FSC-certified cardboard, which allows you to save up to 75% on plastic. It looks like a cardboard tube with a sticker on it. The cap is skinny to reduce plastic and has a flip-top cap. When you open the flip-top cap you can see a nozzle which delivers the product. The size of the nozzle is the right one to allow controlling the product dispensed.

The packaging has a print on the front showing the brand and product name, coconut and aloe design and some of the product claim, like 98% of natural ingredients and no water waste. On the back, the packaging shows how to use it, the ingredient list and other relevant information.

About Garner No Rinse Conditioner Texture and Smell

The product is a white cream, similar to most of the conditioners I’ve ever tried. This cream emulsifies between damp hands to ease application. It is not a sticky or oily cream and therefore, you can remove it easily from the hands after application.

The smell is nice if you like the coconut scent. It is a deep coconut smell which stays in the bathroom for some time. As this is a non-rinse-off product, the smell stays on your hair for quite a long time. Keep in mind you will be spreading the smell wherever you go.

You don’t need to apply a huge amount of product. I have mid-length hair and I apply an amount of a grape for all my hair. That makes the product last for quite a long time. I am using mine for almost two months with an average of two applications per week, and it is still almost full.

About the application

The brand recommends applying the product after the shampoo on damp hair. Then you don’t need to rinse, but style with or without a hairdryer. I used the product following the instructions for some time, but now, for the reasons I will mention later, I am applying it in a different way.

I am using it now as an almost conventional conditioner. Therefore, I apply it after shampooing, over damp hair from mid-length to tip, but I am partially rinsing it off.

The reason for that is that, as I mentioned, I was using it as a leave-on conditioner, but my scalp was very itchy. I stop the use of this conditioner for some time to check if it was this product or another product from my hair care routine which is responsible for this itchiness. When I used a different conditioner my scalp was not itchy anymore. But now I had the full tube of conditioner which I don’t want to waste. I decided then to try to use it as a normal conditioner, but with a bit less rinsing. Using the product in that way, my scalp is fine and I am using the product again.

About Garnier No Rinse Conditioner Ingredients

This product is sulphate, silicone and parabens free and, therefore, ideal for people using the curly girl method. It does not contain harsh chemicals. The formula contains different oils, like sunflower seeds, macadamia seeds and coconut oil which are emollients. It also contains some exfoliant ingredients, tartaric, citric, and salicylic acids, which may be responsible for the itchiness I get on my scalp. Despite my skin is not sensitive, my scalp is and I should be careful with the ingredients I apply.

The product also contains a lot of perfuming agents. I think that is not needed and Garnier could avoid this type of perfume to make the product convenient for any scalp type.

About the results

Apart from the itchiness produced on my scalp and keeping in mind that I need to rinse it, I should say that this product leaves my hair shiny, healthy, hydrated, and volumised. My hair is wavy, type 2A, which means that depending on how I style it, I can get almost straight or nice wavy hair. With this conditioner, my hair results in a nice wavy style, without the need of using heat or any additional product.

When I was using it as a leave-on conditioner, the results were similar. I should say that my scalp was itchy, but my hair was not oily or sticky, and the products were nicely distributed along my hair. Most of the leave-on conditioners I’ve tried leave the hair feeling dirty at the end of the day, which forces you to wash it again or use dry shampoo. I didn’t get this feeling with this conditioner.

Summary

I am being completely honest with you. The product is good, in my case, as a normal conditioner. However, there are lots of conditioners, from Garnier and others, producing similar results while the price is a lot more cheaper. I don’t see the point in my case to use this product, as the itchiness produced, I need to rinse anyway.

Obviously, I am going to finish the tube, as I hate wasting it. I am not going to buy it again due to the reason I mentioned and also because I feel the smell is too strong for what I like.
