I never had an interest in using any lash primer. My lashes are long and normally look great with the mascara application. However, I heard different people talking good about Essence Lash Primer and I started to grow interested in trying it. I recently bought it and I’ve been using it for some time in combination with different mascaras. Do you want to know what I think about it?
What does the brand say?
You can never have too much lash volume! The primer offers the lashes an extra volume boost. Simply apply it underneath mascara. The creamy-white texture contains nourishing ingredients like acai oil and mango butter and can be used in combination with any mascara. With a subtle fruity mango fragrance.

My Opinion of Essence Lash Primer
About the packaging
The product comes in a typical cylinder mascara tube. The bottom part is white and shows the brand and product name together with a fruit printout and the words “with superfruits”. The top part is a screw cap in orange and it holds the spoolie. The spoolie is a silicone brush in white. It is a thin spoolie, which allows an easy application of the product over the top and bottom lashes.
Essence Lash Primer properties (texture, smell, …)
The primer itself is white and leaves your lashes coated with a white layer. It has the right consistency to stay on the lashes without smudging. The product dries quickly and does not leave crumpy lashes.
It has a quite strong smell, which may irritate sensitive eyes. The smell, however, doesn’t stay long after application. The product smells like peach, by the way, a smell I love.
About the application
This product is easy to apply thanks to the thickness of the spoolie and the texture. I apply a thin layer of primer before applying the mascara. To perfectly coat the lashes, I apply the primer from root to tips in a zig-zag movement.
I apply it to both the top and bottom lashes. After application, my lashes look white and I hardly can see them. The first time I used this product I thought my mascara was going to look grey over the white coat of primer.
The product does not irritate my eyes, despite I use contact lenses.
Essence Lash Primer effects
Within a minute or two after applying the primer, my lashes are ready for the mascara. I’ve tried this primer with different mascaras, like Essence All Eyes On Me, L’oreal Air Volume and Catrice Glam Doll. The Essence mascara is waterproof while the other two are not.
To compare side to side the effects of the primer, I applied few times over only one eyelash. That allows me to see the difference in how my mascara looks with and without primer.
The first point I should mention is that the primer does not make the mascara application complicated. My mascaras glide through the lashes equally, irrespective of whether I am wearing a primer or not.
The primer does not affect the colour of the mascara either, at least for black mascaras (I did not try with any other colour mascara). My mascaras look equally dark on both sides lashes. I was greatly surprised when I saw my mascara was not looking grey over the primer.
Finally, on the side where I applied the primer, I can feel that my lashes are more lifted and curled. I don’t feel the primer increases the length of my lashes. It increases the volume a bit. The main effect is, however, the curl and lift effect on the eye with primer.
About the ingredients
I am not going to mention too much about the ingredients. This product will not be in contact with the skin, so it is not a problem if the product has comedogenic or other types of ingredients that are not good for the skin.
As the product´s job is to increase volume and curl your lashes, it contains a few ingredients that act as thickeners, like beeswax, microcrystalline wax, or stearic acid. It is worth mentioning the nourishing products you can find in this formula, like some emollients. However, the ingredients I consider more nourishing for your lashes are the acai berry oil (Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Oil in the INCI) and the mango seed butter. Both will help to strengthen your lashes.
In summary, I like this primer and I will continue to use it. This product made me interested in trying other lash primers. I have already another in my stash and I want to compare it side to side with this one, but that will be another post.

Essence Lash Primer Booster
Pros

Do I recommend it?
I am going to buy a spare in case Essence discontinues the product. I thoroughly recommend this product. You can show amazing lashes without falsies, only with mascara combined with primer. However, people with sensitive eyes may be careful in using this product.
