L’oreal Air Volume Mascara Review

Last year I bought L’oreal Air Volume mascara which has been in my drawer for almost a year. I started using it only a few months back. In this post, I would like to share my opinion about this mascara.

What does the brand say?

Blow away the rules of volume! NEW L’Oréal Paris Air Volume mascara is taking your lashes to new heights with mega volume light as air.

Our 1st whipped texture is game-changing, giving you inflated lashes as the formula expands on lashes for up to 10x more impact. Our big soft brush coats every lash with the air-injected technology, locking in up to 24h of smudge & flake resistant volume. Lashes are left feeling supple and light as air. Hypoallergenic, the formula is gentle and allergy-tested, so you can get mega volume worry-free! The texture does not clump: if you’re feeling even more mega, add more coats for buildable mega impact.

My thoughts about L’oreal Air Volume Mascara

About the packaging

I love the packaging of this mascara as it feels really glam for an affordable product.

The product comes in a rose gold metallic-looking tube (though it is made of plastic) with a unique and amazing shape.

The spoolie is a standard size bristle applicator with a sort of cone shape. I prefer a bristle applicator over the silicone ones but I am aware that so many people prefer silicone spoolies.

The size is the right one for me. It is not a skinny wand but it is not too big, so you don’t mess up your eyeshadow when you apply the mascara.

About L’oreal Air Volume Mascara formula

The brand claims this mascara is their first whipped formula mascara. However, I feel it is a mousse type texture better than whipped formula, not too thick and not too liquid.

This mascara does not feel heavy on the lashes, just the opposite. It is very lightweight, light as air as they claim, which makes that mascara a good product for day-to-day makeup.

It is a deep black mascara with a funny smell. The smell is like honey to me, something that I would never expect for mascara and surprised me every time I use it. I cannot stop smelling it though ……

It is a hypoallergenic formula ideal for people with sensitive eyes. Regardless I wear contact lenses and this mascara does not irritate or leave bad feelings in my eyes.

A negative point about this formula is that it is not waterproof. It resists humidity to some extent, as the rainwater over my lashes or the steam coming from the face mask. There is a waterproof version. However, I didn´t try and I don´t know if it performs as the normal version or not.

L’oreal Air Volume Mascara Application and Effect

This mascara is very easy to apply. The wand allows a creamy application to coat the lashes easy and evenly. As I already mentioned, the spoolie is not too big so it does not mess up the lid makeup.

The formula is volumizing and lengthening at the same time. It leaves my lashes with a good volume and thickness. Furthermore, you can build up different layers to increase the volume for a more dramatic effect.

As the brand claims, it is not clumpy and does not smudge or flake during the day.

L’oreal Air Volume Mascara Lasting Power

The brand claims the product lasts for 24 hours. However, I never tried that long and I don´t advise you to do. The longest I have been wearing this mascara has been for about 10 hours, a normal working day.

First of all, I should say that my lashes remain soft and flattery even after the mascara is dry. The product lasts 10 hours at least on my lashes. However, after 8 hours I feel some fallout and smudging. I consider 8 hours is good wearing longevity for a non-waterproof formula.

This mascara holds the curl of my lashes all the wearing time, though I do not curl them before applying the mascara.

Removal Easyness

This mascara is easy to remove. I use a normal biphasic eye makeup remover. I dispense some product over a reusable pad and press it over my eye for a few seconds. Then, I wipe down without pressing too much and most of the mascara comes out.

I wash my face with the cleansing balm and water-based cleanser as I normally do. Finally, I like to properly clean the lash line to remove all the stubborn mascara and eyeliner. I do that with a reusable silicone or cotton bud, the one you use to clean the babies ears, wet with more eye makeup remover.

After that, my lashes are really clean without excess product. I should say that the last step is optional, I do it mainly to remove excess eyeliner. This mascara completely disappears after the second step of the double-cleansing.

In summary, I like this mascara. It is a good product for an affordable price. It lasts long on the lashes without flaking or fading and does a really good job.

Will you buy it again? Do you recommend it?

I like the product, I cannot deny that. However, I will not buy again because L’oreal sells its products in China.

For the same reason, I am unable to recommend it, not for the quality of the product but for ethical reasons.
