I mentioned several times how important is to eliminate dead cells of your skin. In order to do that, I like to apply chemical exfoliators once a week and a soft physical scrub on daily basis. This allows me to show smooth and healthy skin. I am now using a St Ives Face Scrub, the Radiant Skin Pink Lemon and Mandarin Orange Face Scrub and I want to review it as there are a lot of controversies around St Ives scrubs. I hope I can give you a picture to help you to decide if you want to try it or not.
About St Ives
St Ives is a skincare brand that uses 100% natural ingredients in its products. They claim to be cruelty-free and vegan. Some of the ingredients you can find in their products are apricot, walnut, green tea, and coconut among others.
They produce different types of products such as body wash, body lotion, moisturisers, face wash, and recently they launched a range of stick cleansers which I will review soon. However, the most popular products they have, which are already cult products, are face scrubs.

Key Ingredients
Walnut Shell Powder
Crushed walnut shell powder is a gentle yet effective secret behind many St Ives scrubs. This walnut shell powder is finely milled and polished so that each particle has a smooth surface. This ensures the scrub only provides exfoliation to the outer layers of dead skin cells and do not damage your skin.
Pink Lemon Fruit Extract
Pink on the inside, and greenish-yellow on the outside, these special lemons are hard to miss. They add a distinctive citrus kick to the scrub.
Price and Availability
You can buy in different drugstores or supermarkets and online at Boots or Superdrugs at a price of around £5.
What do I feel about St Ives Face Scrub Radiant Skin?
About the packaging
The product comes in a squeeze tube with a flip-top cap. The tube is made of plastic and the predominant colour is pink. The front shows the name of the brand and the product and has some citrus fruits prints out.
The back of the tube displays information about the product such as features, exfoliation factor, ingredients, directions, and other legal requirements.
The flip-top cap is made of transparent plastic. It is easy to open and closes well securing the product. There is a nozzle to deliver the desired amount of product. The nozzle has the right size to help you to control the amount of product delivered. Therefore, you have precise control over the quantity of product delivered.
About the product
The product is pale pink and has small deep pink spots on it. The smell is not very intense and is very pleasant. This smell is quite citrusy as expected from the extracts it contains.
The consistency of this product is like a thick cream. It is not oily and when massaged onto dry skin it forms like small lumps which dry very quick, leaving some powder on your skin.
However, the application over damp skin is completely different. It forms some sort of creamy layer, very pleasant, which washes off easily with water.
How do I use it?
I use this product three times a week, as part of the night routine and after the water-based cleanser. Once I rinse the cleanser, I first apply a chickpea-size of scrub on my damp face, next massage deeply through all the face avoiding the eye area, and I finally rinse with warm water.
If you use the right amount of the product, you will not have residue after rinsing. However, an excess of the product makes it very difficult to rinse and you can find residues when you apply the toner.
How does it feel after using the St Ives face scrub?
After using this product, I get a smooth and luminous complexion, and this effect lasts until the next application. My skin is dry and not sensitive; therefore, I can apply this product without any problem. However, keep in mind that this product can damage sensitive skins despite the small exfoliating particle size.
There is a big controversy around St Ives face scrubs. A lot of people, including me, love these scrubs while other groups hate them, arguing that the particles which make the exfoliation can damage your skin. However, I have been using these scrubs for a long time, not only the soft ones but also the deep exfoliation scrubs and I never had any problem.
Something I love about this product is that the exfoliating particles are 100% natural. A lot of physical scrubs contain microplastics as exfoliating particles. These microplastics harm the environment as they go through the drain. They are very small and go through the water purification filters and, most of the time, they end up in the sea. Consequently, sealife can suffer damages.
In summary, I like this product. It does a good job on my skin with no damage. My skin is smooth, luminous, and radiant in few minutes after using this product. It has a very pleasant smell and contains natural ingredients.
This product makes a very soft exfoliation, though they claim moderate exfoliation factor. I like deep exfoliation factor scrubs, like the Apricot Scrub from the same brand. However, I find this version very useful for daily use.
Pros
- Nice smell
- Good exfoliation without damage
- Made with natural products
- Widely available
- Affordable
- Cruelty-free
Cons
- Only available in 150 mL tube
Will I buy it again? Do I recommend it?
This product is a good daily scrub, cheap, easy to use, and effective. Therefore, I will buy it again.
I recommend it if you do not have sensitive skin. For people with sensitive skin, my advice is to ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any exfoliation product.
