A hypoallergenic product eliminates the risk of an allergic reaction.

False.

There is always a risk of an allergic reaction in any product. Hypoallergenic makeup reduces the risk of allergy. However, you can be allergic to any of the ingredients. Remember, each one of us can be allergic to something different.

The use of foundation avoids the skin to “breathe” properly.

The daily use of foundation clogs the pores and as a consequence, the skin cannot breathe properly. To avoid that problem, you should deep clean your face daily.

You should replace your mascara when the consistency changes.

True and False.

It is true that if the consistency of your mascara changes you should replace it immediately. However, you should replace your mascara anyway after 3 months of the first opening, independent of the consistency change.

The reason for this is that after 3 months of opening the mascara can be contaminated with bacteria and other dirt and, therefore, that can cause infections in your eyes. If you want to know more about why you need to change your mascara, I recommend you this post, which I found very interesting.

Makeup produces pimples and blackheads.

False.

Makeup doesn’t produce any problem if used properly. However, a misuse of makeup can lead to pimples, blackheads, and even more serious problems. For example, that can happen if you use an expired or contaminated product or if your makeup tools are not properly cleaned. Hence the importance of cleaning the makeup tools and keep an eye to the expiry date and also to how the products look like.

As someone who has incredibly sensitive skin, I couldn’t agree with you more with the myth that you can use any cleanser and lotions. It’s just not possible.

Wow. Thanks for sharing these awesome facts about makeup. Some I didn’t know. I kind of figured the SPF one but at the same time, I think I sometimes use that as an excuse not to wear sunscreen on my face. However, I have finally found a GREAT face sunscreen that I LOVE and now use religiously! Thanks for sharing all of these!

I have sunscreen in my makeup, but have been trying to be good about putting on a facial sunscreen before I apply my makeup. Especially since I spend so much time sitting outside at my son’s baseball games! And thanks for the reminder about the mascara. I know that one, but always seem to forget to toss mine if not used up after three months!

I have learned most of these tips over the years, but they are always a good reminder. Sunscreen is so vital to great skin later in life. It is one of those things where you’ll wish you had used it more.
