An Overview of the ruPaul Makeup Collection

Last month when I went on Christmas shopping, a gift set I saw at Superdrug captivated me. It was the ruPaul Gift Set. Obviously, I bought it and did some research about this person and the collection. Later, I learnt that ruPaul launched a huge collection in 2022 and I wanted all the products. Finally, I could buy only some of them. Today I am going to talk about ruPaul Makeup Collection and I will go through the products I bought.

Who is ruPaul?

First comes first. Who is ruPaul? ruPaul (Paul Andre Charles) is an artist born in San Diego, California, in 1960. He is a multi-skills artist as he is a drag queen, television personality, actor, musician and model. He has received several awards in different disciplines.

Since 2009, ruPaul runs a TV the show ruPaul’s Drag Race, with more than 14 seasons on air in the US. Some people consider him the most successful drag queen in the US. Actually, only for his work in ruPaul’s Drag Race, he received 12 Emmy Awards.

In 2022 he launched his very first beauty collection. He said about it that this collection “will leave you feeling happy, confident and fabulous”.

ruPaul Makeup Collection Overview

This collection is available in the UK since 2022. In this collection, ruPaul includes super-pigmented hues with a long-lasting formula. In the UK you can exclusively get it in-store and online at superdrug.com.

The collection consists of different types of products like lookbooks, gift sets, trios and duos.

  • The Final Four Highlighter Palette. This palette is a quad of highlighters called Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve and Talent.
  • A Little Bit of Luscious Lipstick Trio
  • Super Model Lip Duo. It is a combo of lipstick and a lip liner in a nude shade.
  • Eleganza Extravaganza Liquid Eyeshadow Trio
  • Two eyeshadow palettes. One palette contains matte shades and the other only shimmer eyeshadows. The name of the shades refers to iconic ruPaul’s quotes and songs.
  • Two lookbooks. Each lookbook features different products from the collection and contains six eyeshadows, a highlighter, a blush, a lipstick and an eyeliner.
  • A gift set which contains different products.
  • A gender-neutral fragrance. I could not find this product on the Superdrug website yet.

Which ruPaul Makeup Collection products did I buy?

ruPaul Makeup Collection: Eyeshadow Trio

The Eleganza Extravaganza eyeshadow trio contains three liquid eyeshadows with 3.5 mL each. They are all glitter shades for a sparkling look.

Bring the Beat is a silver shade ideal to use as an eyeshadow topper. Boogie is a copper eyeshadow with a base colour. You can use it on its own. Rock It is a golden shade intermediate between the other two. Therefore, it has more base of colour than Bring the Beat but not as much as Boogie.

In the swatches, they look intense and once they are dry they don’t smudge. My favourite at this moment is Boogie but Bring the Beat may look amazing on the tear duct corner.

ruPaul Makeup Collection Eyeshadow Palettes

Shantay You Stay

This eyeshadow palette contains 18 matte shades with 0.8 g each. The packaging is made of cardboard and contains a pretty big mirror. There are three rows of six pans each, which are square with the letters “ru” engraved on them.

I like the variety of colours in this palette. There are a good number of neutral colours and some in more colourful shades like pink, green, blue and lilac. This palette allows you to create a day-to-day look as well as party makeup.

Sashay Away

This palette has 18 shimmer shades to complement the matte eyeshadow palette. The packaging is the same as the other palette.

This palette contains neutral shimmer shades in gold, copper and brown, but also deeper colour eyeshadows. My favourites are Tee Hee, Pumped, Click Clack and Breakdancer. I can’t wait to use them on my eyes.

ruPaul Makeup Collection: Condragulations Look Book

The packaging of this product resembles a book. After opening it, there is a big mirror on the left-hand side and a few products on the right-hand side.

This lookbook comes with the entire product you need for a basic look and, therefore, it is perfect to take with you when you are going to be out of the home.

It contains six eyeshadows (three matte and three shimmer eyeshadows) in neutral shades. Most of them are in the eyeshadow palettes. There is a highlighter, Talent, from the highlighter palette and a blush in a dusty pink shade called Hot Shot.

To complete the look there are liquid eyeliners in black with a felt tip called Black to My Roots and a nude liquid lipstick, Mother Pucker.

This lookbook is ideal to make a day-to-day look. I will try it and make a look using all the products in this look book which I will post on my Instagram account. Hence, don’t forget to follow me if you don’t want to miss it.

Get the Look Gift Set

This was the first product I bought from this collection. All the products come in a deep pink box, which is really well packed with orange shredded paper. Inside there are three packs, individually wrapped in deep pink paper.

One of them contains a key ring with the legend “You Are A Star Baby”. I have nothing to say about it.

The second pack contains a pale nude liquid lipstick (Pretty, Pretty), the liquid eyeshadow Rock It (always good to have it twice in case I cannot buy it again), the Pout It Out nude lipstick with the matching lip liner Gang Gang and the Black to My Roots eyeliner.

The last pack comes with a mirror. This mirror is uncovered and the back is golden with the words “Give Your All”. It also contains a duo highlighter palette with the shades Charisma and Talent and a 9-pan eyeshadow palette which is a mixture of some of the matte and shimmer shades from the eyeshadow palettes.

What do I think about ruPaul Makeup Collection?

Now that I know what each pack contains, I can say that I don’t think you need to buy the collection.

The gift set contains all the products that represent the collection (eyeshadows, lipsticks, highlighters and eyeliner). Therefore, if you buy this set you will have all that you need to create a nice look.

The same thing happens if you buy one of the lookbooks. They contain all the product you need for a day-to-day look and it is handy to carry with you when you travel. Therefore, I advise you to choose between one lookbook and the gift set, you may need only one of them. I bought both for the sake of writing this post but you only need one of them for a full look, as some products are the same in both sets.

However, I highly recommend both eyeshadow palettes and the liquid eyeshadow trio. Despite the gift set contains some of the shades included in the palettes, these shades are neutral and the palettes come with amazing colour eyeshadows.

I didn’t buy the lipstick trio or lip duo, but looking at the lip products contained in the sets, I don’t think I am missing anything. I have two of the liquid lipsticks and the lipstick and lip liner included in the Lip Duo Set.

Regarding the fragrance, I am curious about trying a gender-neutral fragrance and probably I will buy it as soon as I have the opportunity.

Final Words

In summary, I like what I got from this collection. However, I believe you should carefully think about what to buy rather than buying all the products as you will get a lot of duplicated products.

First, I am going to use them on my face and then I will update the post to let you know how they perform with a review in this blog or with a mini-review or reel on my Instagram account. Subscribe, then, if you don’t want to miss that.
