I have been always interested in trying shampoo bars. However, I didn’t want to spend money on something I do not know if I will like or not. Recently, one of my subscription boxes came with a shampoo bar from the brand ‘GreenFrog Botanics’ and that was the opportunity I have been waiting for to use this type of product.
Today I am going to review the Rose and Argan Oil solid shampoo by The GreenFrog Botanics.
On travel to India, the Greenfrog Botanic’s founders discovered the use of soap berries and got fascinated. They started to work with a small company in India to produce soap based on that berries, which were later exported to their shop in East Essex, UK. That was the beginning of The Greenfrog Botanic brand and they continue expanding until now.
Nowadays they produce a unique and original premium natural skincare range, which is registered by the Vegetarian and Vegan societies, with a minimum of 72% organic dry content, 0% paraben, SLS, palm oil, phosphates and no nasty chemicals.
All Greenfrog Botanic’s products are made with organic soapberries, antioxidant, moisturising, natural Aloe Vera and calming yet uplifting essential oils such as Geranium & Peppermint or Neroli & Lime for wonderfully smelling, pampered skin.

My experience using Greenfrog Botanics Rose and Argan Oil Shampoo Bar
How is the shampoo bar?
I got this solid shampoo in a Birchbox. It is a 23 grams bar instead of the 56 grams available to purchase.
The shampoo bar comes in a paper bag. This paper bag is pink in colour with the name of the product and all the information needed on it.
When you open the bag you get the shampoo bar. The shampoo bar is round and deep pink in colour with a soft-to-touch texture. It has a deep smell which I love, it smells like roses. However, it is not an artificial smell. It is similar to when you smell roses in your garden, a very natural rose smell.
I use it as described by the brand. Firstly I wet my hair and the shampoo bar. Secondly, I rubbed the shampoo bar in my hands to make it lather a bit and apply the soap bar on my hair, from roots to ends, one single time. Finally, I rinse it off with warm water.
The amount of lather is very good. One swipe is enough for washing all my hair, which is mid-length. Then, after swiping the shampoo bar, I continue washing my hair as I normally do with other shampoos. I love how the amount of lather increases during the process. After messaging for some time, I rinse it off. It is very easy to rinse and doesn’t leave any residue.
What about the results?
I feel my hair is clean, though I need to use a conditioner after washing, which is something I always do. I was concerned about whether the soap bar was going to leave my hair dry, or better said, dryer than normal as my hair is already dry. Surprisingly, that was not the case. I cannot say my hair was extremely hydrated though it is better than I expected.
In fact, the cleanses effect lasts for few days. I am washing my hair as frequently as I used to do with liquid shampoos.
I like the concept of solid shampoo. Firstly, it is environmentally friendly. Not only it does not contain any plastic but also the paper bag is easily recyclable.
Secondly, it is very handy to carry. In my case, I am covering it every day in my gym bag and I am sure I am not going to have any spillage or mess. It is also handy for travel as it can easily go in your hand luggage.
Lastly, it doesn’t have any harsh ingredients. It is alcohol-free, fragrance-free and essential oils free. It contains glycerine, which is an amazing humectant and moisturising ingredient and a good variety of vegetable oils, such as sunflower seed oil, apricot kernel oil, olive oil, argan oil, and camelia oil, all of them with emollient properties.
In summary, it is the first solid shampoo I’ve ever tried and I enjoyed the experience. My hair is clean and not so frizzy, the soap is easy to carry with you and it is affordable. Therefore, I would like to try other fragrances of shampoo bars.
Pros
- Cleans the hair well
- Does not dry my hair
- Environment friendly
- Easy to carry
- Lathers well
Cons
- Should include tin or net to hold it and store after use
- The colour is not natural, it contains colourant
Will I repurchase? Do I recommend it?
I do recommend it and I will buy it again. I also would like to try other versions of this product, simply to compare smells, like orange and cinnamon or jasmine oil. Anyway, However, I am sure that I will buy it again in future as I loved the smell, I loved how clean my hair is and how easy it is to carry.
