Essence Hydra Hero Under Eye Stick Review

When Essence launched the product which I am talking about today, I could not wait to get it. It is supposed to be a deeply hydrating product and it quickly became viral on Instagram and TikTok. My skin is dry, especially my under eyes area, hence anything claiming to be hydrating will appeal to me. I have been using the Essence Hydra Hero Under Eye Stick for some time now. Does it perform well? Does it worth the hype? I will tell you in this post.

What does the brand say?

Essence Hydro Hero Under Eye Stick (4.5g) is a skin-nourishing undereye stick, which has been enriched with Panthenol, Niacinamide and Aloe Vera for an intensely hydrating, nourishing effect.

Presented in a practical stick format, the transparent texture is easy to apply, both as an addition to your skincare routine in the morning or before going to bed, as well as for a skincare kick on the go. Cruelty-free & vegan-friendly.

My opinion about Essence Hydro Hero Under Eye Stick

About the packaging

This product comes in a pink plastic stick with an almost transparent cap. The packaging, in general, looks plasticky and cheap, but especially the cap looks terrible. You can feel the low quality of the materials used to make the packaging.

The stick shows the required information, such as product name and brand, ingredient list, how to use, and more, all printed in silver-blue letters.

The way the cap closes the stick is by a pressing system. Once closed, the cap is secured so it will not open accidentally in your bag making a mess. It has a twist system to take the product out of the stick. It is literally like a giant lipstick.

The size of the packaging is handy, it is a sort of travel sized and it is, therefore, very easy to carry in your bag if you travel or go to the gym.

Essence Hydra Hero Under Eyes Stick Appearance

This product itself is light blue and translucent. It looks like a solidified jelly…..I should say it is quite weird. It does not have any smell, which makes the product suitable for people with sensitive skin.

I found the product quite big for my under-eye area. It does not fit properly to my under-eye shape. Another problem I found when applying this product is that it does not glide easily over my skin and, therefore, it does not apply smoothly. I need to press the product hardly against my skin and that is not what I want for my delicate under-eye area.

How does the product feel on the skin?

This product refreshes my skin, though it does not produce any cooling effect. The brand does not claim that but I know some people said it produces this effect.

My skin does not feel oily or sticky after the application of this product and I can continue straight away with the rest of my skincare routine or makeup.

Another feeling I have when I use this product is that my skin absorbs it very quickly. That is not great for this type of product. The hydrating effect of any moisturising or hydrating product last until full absorption. If the skin absorbs this product quick means the hydration will not last for a long time. At least on my skin, this product gives quick hydration which does not last at all.

About Essence Hydra Hero Under Eye Stick Ingredients

Looking at the ingredient list we can see a few interesting things. This product contains only 12 ingredients and among the top five, we can find hydrating ingredients like glycerin and polypropylene glycol as well as a very good ingredient for the skin, niacinamide. It also contains aloe vera juice and panthenol.

Niacinamide is a good ingredient to fight the ageing signs and reduce dark spots. The other mentioned ingredients have moisturising properties. It is also important to note that this product does not contain any type of fragrances, parabens, alcohol, or any other polemic ingredients.

If you want to know more about the ingredients check the INCI Decoder webpage.

Looking at the ingredient list, we can say that the product should be an amazing moisturising and hydrating product. But……

How does the product perform on the skin?

Unfortunately, I should say that the overall performance of this product on my skin is poor. The brand claims this product is deeply hydrating and caring. I don’t doubt about that the product is caring, how to prove that? However, I don’t agree with the statement “deeply hydrating”.

I am really disappointed with this product. After all the videos I watched on Instagram and TikTok, I was expecting real hydration and I got a product which does not apply smoothly, does not have any cooling effect and produces hydration which goes before I can apply the rest of my skincare routine products.

It may be good for very young people or even people in their early 20s. I don’t doubt that. What I think is that this product is not good enough for people over 30. And what to say if you are over 40…….

In summary, this product has been one of the main deceptions I went through this year. Maybe my expectations were too high for a product designed for people with young skin.

Essence Hydra Hero Under Eyes Stick

The viral product Essence Hydro Hero eye treatment is for the skin around the eyes and claims to give it much-needed nourishment and hydration.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Good packaging size for travelling
  • Does not smell
  • Has a lovely colour

Cons

  • Does not apply smoothly
  • The stick does not fit my under-eye area
  • Does not produce a cooling effect

  • Does nothing on my skin

Will I re-purchase? Do I recommend it?

I am going to finish this product as, despite doing nothing on my skin, it will not harm either. I hate wasting products….. However, I will not buy it anymore and, therefore, I cannot recommend it.
