Shea Bliss Skin Body Butter Review

In this post, I am going to review Shea Bliss Skin Body Butter. I got the Cherry Bomb body butter as part of a subscription box, and later I bought the Peach and the Tropical Body Butter.

My opinion about Shea Bliss Skin Body Butter

I tried three different varieties of Shea Bliss Skin Body Butter. Firstly, I tried the Cherry Bomb Body Butter which came in a Birchbox. Later, I bought placed an order to Shea Bliss Skin and bought the Peach and Tropical versions of the body butter.

How does Shea Bliss Skin Body Butter look like?

They all come in a glass jar, similar to a jam jar. The glass is transparent and has a sticker around with the name of the brand and product. This jar is closed with a golden metal screw lid, exactly as in the jam jars.

The product is cream in colour and has a mousse consistency. In the jar, it looks like whipped cream. All  three products I have tried smell just the same, they only smell like shea butter. I hardly can sense any cherry, peachy, or tropical scent.

As I already mentioned, they have a mousse consistency. They even make this sort of small creepy noise when you take some. It is not a bad texture, though I prefer cream consistency.

How do I use it?

I tried first to use it as recommended, that is as a body butter. However, I do not like that. This product feels so heavy and oily on my skin and I feel uncomfortable. My skin feels sticky after applying the product and it took ages in getting absorbed. It is not a comfortable feeling, trust me.

However, I didn’t want to waste the cream and I decided to use it as an overnight hand cream mask. It was this unexpected use is the one I loved and hence I bought the product again.

The way I use the product now is by applying a pea size amount for both hands and massaging well on both hands and wrists. Then I cover my hands with cotton gloves and go to sleep.

I only use this product as an overnight hand mask, during the day I use the Nivea Soothing hand cream or any The Body Shop Hand Cream.

How does my skin feel?

Obviously, the product is still oily and sticky and takes a long time in getting absorbed. However,  what annoyed me on my body has turned useful for the hands. I was exactly looking for such a product for my hands’ overnight treatment. Actually, the thickness of these creams helps repair deeply my dry and damaged hand skin.

When I get up in the morning, I do not have any residue as all the product has been absorbed. I wake up with repaired hand skin which also feels soft, supple, and healthy.

I do not apply this cream daily. During summer, I have been using it once a week. Normally I feel my hands drier during cold months, so during fall and winter, I try to apply this butter twice a week or even more if I feel I need to.

The worst characteristic of this product, obviously in my opinion, is the smell. It smells strange, like pure shea butter but more oily, and all the versions I tried smell the same, independent of what they claim to be. I will not be able to identify them from the smell.

The effectiveness of all three body butter is also the same. To be honest, I don’t know why they make three different versions when all the three are the same or at least I can say that I couldn’t feel any difference among them. It may be due to marketing strategy.

About Customer Service

When you read a product review, you don’t read information about how the brand deals with the customers. That is important for me and I would like to point out my experience with the Shea Bliss Skin team. It is obviously unrelated to the product, and it is only about the behaviour of customer Service.

I contacted them few times with queries about the products and other times I wanted another type of information.Once I asked about an order I placed, and once to inform them about a problem with their website. The way I contacted them was by email and Instagram direct message. I never got an answer for any of the messages I left.

They only answered me when I informed them about a problem with their website. They acknowledge me and that was all. If they can answer me to that email, they could have also replied to the other mails I sent, don’t you think?

Conclusion

In summary, this is a typical example of a product which in principle you don’t like for the intended purpose, but that can be re-purposed and become something you want on your bedside table.

And that was exactly what happened to me. I hate this product as body butter, though I want to always keep a jar beside my bed to use as an overnight hand mask.

Pros

  • Environmentally friendly packaging
  • Good as an overnight hand cream
  • Small amount is enough to cover both hands
  • Deeply nourishes your hands
  • Thick enough for an overnight hand treatment
  • Possibility to choose between two different pot sizes

Cons

  • Terrible smell
  • Very oily and sticky to use as a body butter
  • Terrible Customer Service

Will I buy it again? Do I recommend it?

After using it as a body butter I thought I was going to bin it and forget about it. However, after using it as a hand cream, not only I finished the first jar I got but also, I bought two more jars. Saying that, I recommend it if you want to use it as hand cream or if you don’t mind using very thick body butter. I will not recommend this product if you are like me and enjoy with very light body products.

At this moment I don’t really know whether I will buy it again. I like the product, but I hate their the Customer Service. We are the customers who will spend our money in their website. I don’t say they should venerate us, but at least treat us with respect and reply to our mails. After all they should know how to treat their customers.

      Hi!
Thanks for that review. I have very dry skin and have used Shea butter in the past with very good results. I think perhaps the addition of vitamin E oil is unnecessary as the Shea Butter in its virgin form is extremely moisturizing – and I mean for parched skin like mine. Great job!

I enjoyed reading this review! I find that Shea butter is the best for my skin, especially for the long winter months. This seems like a product I would like to try.
