December Subscription Boxes

Thursday, 24 December 2020

This is the last subscription boxes post of the year. As most of you know, this 2020 I tried different boxes for a few months and now I have a good idea about how each subscription is.

I am not going to continue subscribing to four boxes on 2021. I need to check when my subscription period finishes for each and I am going to cancel two of them. Most probably, I will get three months subscription for two boxes and change to the other two after that and so on.

Let’s see first December boxes and I will summarize my opinion for each at the end.

Birchbox

The first box I got this month was Birchbox. Well, it is not exactly a box. This month the products came in a very nice velvet vanity in forest green colour. The vanity is not huge, but it is big enough to carry a few makeup and skincare products. You can also use as a purse as the size is enough to carry the home keys, mobile phone, some money and some makeup. The box this month is called “Countdown to Midnight”.

The box contained:

Percy and Reed, Totally TLC Hydrating Mask

This is a hair moisturising mask with nourishing ingredients, as coconut oil. It leaves the hair soft, manageable and conditioned.

Lapcos, Charcoal Exfoliating and Cleansing Pad,

It is a pad packed with charcoal powder to eliminate dirt and toxins from the skin. It has also rice and soybean extracts to provide hydration.

Eyeko, Liquid Eyeliner.

It is supposed to be a liquid eyeliner with a precise nib. It is waterproof and you can apply also on the waterline.

Chella, La Vie Eyeshadow Palette.

It is a vegan and cruelty-free eyeshadow palette with four warm-neutral shades. Two of them are pearl shades while the other two are matte. They are water-resistant.

Birchbox Accessories, Deep Red Eyelash Curler

I could choose the colour and I chose gold and red. It looks quite sturdy and good quality. At the moment, I don’t use lash curler but one of my new year resolutions is to learn how to apply false lashes. If I succeed, I will need a good lash curler. Let’s see.

HAAN, Hydrating Hand Sanitizer

We are using hand sanitiser nowadays frequently and most of us have very dry hands. This one has aloe vera to hydrate your hands at the same time as it sanitizes them.

Lookfantastic Beauty Box

This month we have the “Christmas Edit”. Products came in a black box with a golden line all around the box. The lid is also black with Christmas and beauty motifs painted in gold colour. It is very nice for this season.

In the edit magazine, there is an interview with Avant’s Head of Marketing, an article about ginger in cosmetics, how to apply cream highlighter and more.

What is inside

Avant – Pro-Radiance Brightening Eye Final Touch (10 mL)

This cream is infused with hyaluronic acid and seawater. It is a long-lasting moisturizer which combats fine line appearance, wrinkles, dark circles, eye bags, etc

Brushworks – Double-Ended Brush (Full Size)

It is an eye brush with a shader brush in one end, ideal to pack eyeshadow and blend the edges. On the other side, there is a precision brush, to use as an eyeliner brush for both powder and cream products.

Percy and Reed – Hairspray (50 mL)

Not too much to say about it. It is……… a hairspray. I don’t use this type of products, so it goes straight to the giveaway basket.

Jecca Blac – Glow Drops Champagne (Full size)

I have already this product in a different shade and it is a good product. You can use it as an illuminating primer underneath your makeup or as a highlighter on your cheeks, cupid’s bow, etc

The Balm – Petal to Metal Eyeshadow

This eyeshadow is creamy, buildable and easy to blend. It is highly pigmented and you can use it alone or in combination with any other eyeshadow.

Medik8 – Hydrating Serum

Contains hyaluronic acid and panthenol (vitamin B5). Delivers long-lasting hydration for a plumper and smooth complexion. It is vegan, cruelty-free and free from artificial fragrances.

Roccabox

This month the box name is “Party and Pamper”. The products came in the typical recyclable pink box which was full of hair, skincare and makeup products.

Bella Pierre cosmetics – Heart Wave Highlighting Palette (Full size)

This is the hero product. It is five pans shimmering highlighter in the pink shades. They are deeply pigmented and can be used on the cheeks, browbones, etc. It is cruelty-free.

SMUG – Silk Luxury Sleep Mask (Full Size)

It is a nice and soft sleep mask, but not very useful for me. I need complete darkness to sleep well and I need a black sleep mask. However, it is very cute and can be useful for the travels, once we can do them, of course.

Balance Me – Vitamin C Repair Serum (Deluxe Travel Size)

Vitamin C is ideal to give luminosity to the skin. It replaces dullness with a glow. It also contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate your skin.

Batiste X Skinny Dip – Dry Shampoo (Full size)

I am not a big fan of dry shampoo but it can be a good choice in cold months when you don’t have time to dry your hair and going out with the wet hair is a really bad idea.

Grace & Stella – Dead Sea Mud Mask (Deluxe Travel size)

Mud cleanses and draws out impurities of our skin and push inside nutrients at the same time. It has clay to gently exfoliate and fatty acids to boost moisture levels. Good at this time of the year, as I am planning to deeply treat my skin during this Christmas break

Glossybox

It was the last box I received this month and this year. The box is very nice, in pink colour with glitter particles on the lid matching the Christmas time. It has different shades of pink and shows a winter snow landscape.

It is called “Best Time Of the Year” and it is to wish a Merry Christmas to all of us, though this year has nothing good.

Symbiosis – Glycolic Acid and RNA Overnight Rejuvenating Eye Serum (Full Size)

It combines the benefits of glycolic acid, which reduces dullness and excess oil, with the advantages of RNA, which helps to combat signs of ageing. It has also mica to give a radiant complexion.

Nailberry – Strawberry Jam (Full size)

It is a festive nail varnish to complete your look. It has a patented technology which helps to keep your nails healthy.

Wander Beauty INC – Baggage Claim Gold Eye Mask (Full Size)

That is an under eye mask with three layers to treat yourself. A top layer of the gold foil allows the serum to penetrate deeply in your skin. Second and third layers ensure mask stays in place and delivers the ingredients effectively.

Palmer’s – Cocoa Butter Formula Original Solid Jar (Deluxe Mini)

It is a very good product for the cold weather when your skin becomes dry and even cracks. Cocoa butter comes from a sustainable source.

Sport FX – Wipe the Day Away (Full Size)

That is a good option for the gym. It contains ten sets of individually packed eye and face wipes. It is really convenient to carry with you in your bag for an on-the-go cleansing.

This is the last month I am getting four boxes. I am going to cancel my Birchbox subscription because it always comes with very small size samples.

I think, for the moment, I will keep Roccabox and Glossybox subscriptions. Maybe I will change during the year and cancel one of this to get again Lookfantastic Beauty Box (close to Christmas time I will do it to have priority access to Lookfantastic Advent Calendar).

I have in mind trying the Latest In Beauty subscription box. What holds me back is that for Latest In Beauty you choose your products every month, the box content is not a surprise. However, that can be a pro, as you are 100% sure that all what is inside the box is useful for you.

I love beauty and skincare, try new products, and share my opinion with you. All my knowledge comes from years of experience and reading articles. I have dry skin, Fitzpatrick type IV, warm undertone, and my main concern is hyperpigmentation. Keep in mind that what works for me may not work for you. We are all different and products can have different results on your skin. Want to talk? Email me at contact@irenebeautyandmore.com
